Lots of vets and pet shops advise that rabbits should be kept in pairs, and they are right! Your bunny will be much happier with a rabbit friend especially when you can’t be home, but unfortunately what you might NOT be told is that having a pair of happy bunnies isn’t as simple as just picking one up and introducing it to your existing rabbit, and putting them in the same cage together!
Just like people, rabbits have their own unique personalities and most don’t take kindly to a new rabbit ‘invading their territory’. This often leads to fights, which can be stressful for pet owners to watch, and equally hard to know when to ‘let them at it’ to work out their differences, and when to step in, while they establish their bond and pecking order.
There is quite a lot of work involved in reading their body language , getting them over the initial fighting stage, and helping to encourage a loving relationship. I know the logisitics of keeping two bunnies separately is far from easy, and it is stressful trying to make sure they don't meet accidently when they don't get on! This is not what you signed up for when you got your second ball of fluff, is it?!
